A Few Things About Brett You May Not Know

Thursday 23rd March 2017

Spring has officially sprung and we've had a great time over the past few weeks as the professional party band for some great events. It has got us well and truly in the mood for wedding season! So we thought it was about time we introduced another member of the Indie Rock and Pop Wedding Band, Alive... Ladies and Gentlemen, it's Brett, our awesome drummer (nice to meet you and how do you do.)

Who are your main influences?

The lesser known dudes. The guys that make the records but aren’t really in the limelight. Steve Jordan (John Mayer, Keith Richards, The Letterman show). He is also a big time producer. Jeff Porcaro (Toto) Steve Gadd (Simon & Garfunkel, Steely Dan, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker) These Guys focus their time on playing, more than being seen...

What gear do you use?

Tiki Drums. Tiki Drums are a local Brighton custom drum company at which I have a strong friendship with the owner, Preston and have even been taught by him. My drums were built to my specification – Shell size, material, colour and design. Drums are a very personal thing so it was very special to be able to design my own, and a kit that no one else would have! https://www.tikidrums.com/

Favorite cover song to play?

Currently AC/DC Back in Black! Such a powerful song, but deceptively slow. As a drummer you really have to hold the groove back and lock it in. Simplicity is key too. I also get to sit back and listen to Si nail that guitar solo!

Favorite party band?

I live in Worthing currently and there is a lot of great music and a really good social scene for musicians. The best party band has to be Murdoch’s Crazy Eyes! They pack any pub or venue they play. Fun-time party tunes and medleys played by some great musicians - musicians that are making their own name in the music industry individually too.

If you could time warp and play a gig again, which would it be?

Aged 16, Worthing Pavilion Theater, 900 people, 80 piece college Big Band plus a drum solo... That’s why I still play drums now!!

That's all folks! You've heard a little bit about Damo, and read 10 things about Simon you may not know, so stay tuned to meet the fourth and final member very soon.

In the meantime, we'll see you on the dancefloor!

Alive.
